Toward Morning

About the song

Words have weight and substance. And when you hear abusive words enough, they can shape your world until you are living within the confines of how someone else sees and values you. Words can create reality.

After her divorce, Cara started running as a way to stay healthy and calm her mind. One day during a run, the melody and lyrics for Toward Morning suddenly popped into her head along with the realization that the marriage she had been mourning had been unhealthy to say the least. And now, she had the chance to rebuild her world based on her own truths.

Toward Morning is a reminder to make sure that the voice whispering in your ear about how you look and what you’re worth is your own, and not the echo of a voice belonging to someone who only seeks to hold you back.

Lyrics

She went running
She went running toward a destination
She chose herself
Not knowing she’d been running all this time within someone else’s world

And all the roads led back to him
His words whispered in the wind
And the words became reality
Spread her desert
Filled the sea
You’ll never amount to anything

She was running
Through mountains, unnoticed topography
Still containing laughter lines of a time less labyrinthine - the beginning

And all the roads led back to him
His words whispered in the wind
And the words became reality
Spread the desert
Filled her sea
You’ll never amount to anything

But the blue, the beautiful deep blue sky
Refused to hold his lies
She could move the curtain, the suffocation
Realized she could fly all this time
Toward morning
Toward morning

Then all the roads washed away from him
His words drifted in the wind
And her world became reality
Through the tempest, she could see
Through the tempest, she could see
Through the tempest, she could see
She could do anything
She could do anything
